8 Moisturizing Skin & Hair Products for the Winter Months

I naturally have very dry skin; for most of my life, I’ve suffered from dandruff and flaky skin around my nose and eyebrows. In the winter months, my skin becomes even more dry. Add the extra hand-washing and -sanitizing from our new COVID world and now I have dry, cracked knuckles, too! With the extra-cold weather (and snow!) lately, I thought this would be a perfect time to round up the 8 moisturizing products that I can’t live without! If you have any recommendations for me, let me know in the comments!

1. Skinfix Eczema+ Dermatitis Face Balm

This product is a game-changer for the wintertime!

This balm totally saves my life! When I have extra dry — almost raw — skin, I always load up on this balm. It has a vaseline-like texture but it isn’t overly greasy. I usually use it as a spot treatment for the most dry and vulnerable spots, like the parts of my scalp that are red or the cracked skin on my knuckles. You don’t need too much! Just enough to coat the spot that needs a medicinal-level of moisture. While this isn’t an everyday product, it is still an essential for me!

2. Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

For anyone who struggles with dandruff — even if it’s just in the winter — this shampoo is for you! I spent over 10 years using another dandruff shampoo (that my dermatologist prescribed me!) but still saw flakes around the crown of my head ALL. THE. TIME. My dermatologist even told me that I would probably live with dry skin and dandruff for the rest of my life. In a desperate act, I tried this shampoo because of the awesome Amazon reviews. It worked. I literally live dandruff-free now because of this shampoo!

This is essentially a moisturizer for my scalp!

3. Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair and Body Moisturizer

I’ve used this post-shower moisturizer for years — I swear it’s what keeps my scalp from getting too dry. After my shower, when my hair is still wet, I apply a small amount to the top of my scalp/around the frame of my face and at the bottom of my hairline in the back of my neck. I’ve noticed that my skin is the driest in these areas, leaving it the most vulnerable to flaking, redness, and even painful, raw red skin. After using this product, I noticed a difference in the extremity of my skin’s dryness. I love this product!

4. Alba Botanica Even Advanced Natural Sea Moss Moisturizer

I’ve used A LOT of moisturizers in my life. I can usually tell whether a moisturizer is effective or not within minutes after applying. If a moisturizer isn’t moisturizing enough, I will feel a tightness in my skin; a good moisturizer doesn’t feel greasy but leaves your face hydrated and soft. Of all the moisturizers I’ve ever tried, this is by far my favorite! It also is a redness-reducer, which for me is a two-in-one product! Oftentimes dryness and redness go hand-in-hand. After using this product, I could SEE the difference in my skin after using — no flakes, and barely any redness! I love this product! I bought mine at Whole Foods but I believe ULTA and Walmart both carry it, too!

5. TULA Glow & Get It Cooling and Brightening Eye Balm

TULA has a lot of other great products, too! I also use their Gentle Sensitive Skin Cleansing Milk to wash my face in the morning and at night.

Okay. This product isn’t ONLY for hydration BUT I love it’s bonus feature: it is essentially a natural highlighter! While the stick looks a bit blue in color, it works as a highlighter for your natural skin (not on top of makeup). It’s bluish tint (which disappears once you rub it in) also balances out my redness. I wear this on my forehead, nose, and under my eyes every day that I don’t wear a full-face of makeup. It makes me glow (people have actually commented on it before!) and is also moisturizing without being greasy. It makes my skin smooth, soft, and supple — and gives me that extra ‘natural’ glow that I’m looking for in an everyday look.

I highly recommend this product and this company! I use other products from the TULA brand, including their Gentle Sensitive Skin Cleansing Milk and ‘Makeup Melt’ Makeup Remover Balm. Their products have a lot of high-quality ingredients, including probiotics. If you’re a teacher, nurse, first responder, a government employee, or in the military, you can save 20% on EVERY ORDER!

I love fragrance-free lotions like this one that actually moisturize my skin!

6. Borage Therapy Hand Cream

I bought this hand cream a while ago but I still use it every night before bed, especially now that we’re deep into the winter months and hand-washing and -sanitizing is more important than ever! I apply a generous amount to my hands before bed and it does all the hydrating work overnight. I can tell when I’ve missed a night because my hands with sting from being so chapped! This ultra-moisturizing lotion is a life-saver in the winter months!

7. Alba Botanica Very Emollient Body Lotion (Unscented)

I don’t love fragranced lotions (as you can probably tell from my hand lotion pick above) so this unscented body lotion is perfect for hydration during cold weather months. I use this to lotion my arms, legs, you name it! It also works as a great base if you add body oils or other products to your body lotions. It comes in a huge bottle so you can get a ton of uses out of it; it’s definitely worth the buy in my opinion!

I love this scent; it reminds me of staying at a spa!

8. Burt’s Bees Cucumber Mint Lip Balm

I LOVE lip balm! If you know, you know that chapped lips are one of my biggest pet-peeves. In addition to hydrating by drinking water, I put on chapstick everyday, even if it’s just at bed time. I notice a major shift in my lips softness when I do. While most lip balms or chapsticks will work, I love the scent of this one! It reminds me of a spa — it’s such a calming and clean scent — and makes me feel a little luxurious.
